The paper takes a look at text setting in Ossetic songs. If many poetic conventions impose metric constraints on linguistic output, music can be seen as an additional enforcement of these constraints, since music follows its own meter, often very strict and regular. The initial assumption is that the musical and poetic meters be aligned for the lyrics of a song to sound acceptable.
